The Brodsky Synagogue in Odesa takes its name from the Jewish families who came to the city from Brody, in Galicia. It was completed in the 1860s and became known for services sung by a trained choir, which was uncommon in the region at the time. The building was taken from the community under Soviet rule and put to secular use.
The painting belongs to the Modern Paintings collection from David Roytman Luxury Judaica, which renders Jewish landmarks as contemporary artwork rather than as architectural record.
