The Main Synagogue in Odesa was built in the middle of the nineteenth century and served one of the largest Jewish populations in the Russian Empire. It was closed under Soviet rule and put to other uses for decades, then returned to the city's Jewish community after Ukrainian independence. Services are held there again today.

The painting belongs to the Modern Paintings collection from David Roytman Luxury Judaica, which renders Jewish landmarks as contemporary artwork rather than as architectural record.

Each canvas is hand-finished by the brand's artists, so no two are identical.
