Questions Buyers Ask

Q: What is custom Judaica?

A: Custom Judaica is luxury Jewish ritual or ceremonial objects personalized or fully designed for a specific buyer. It includes engraving on existing pieces, fully bespoke commissions, family symbol design, corporate gift series, and one-of-one heirloom pieces.

Q: What is the difference between engraving and a custom commission?

A: Engraving adds text or symbols to an existing catalog piece (2 to 3 weeks). A custom commission designs the piece itself around the buyer (4 to 6 weeks). Commissions are signed and numbered, and the design is not reproduced.

Q: What can be engraved?

A: Surnames, full family names, wedding or move-in dates, Hebrew letters (full or initials), Star of David variations, hamsa, lion of Judah, Jerusalem walls, menorah, and short blessings. Sterling silver and bronze take engraving directly. Italian leather and python take embossing. See Engraved Mezuzah Cases Guide.

Q: What can be commissioned bespoke?

A: Mezuzah cases, kippot, tallit bags, tefillin boxes, decanters, kiddush cups, pendants, cufflinks, Torah covers, full Shabbat table sets. Bespoke material direction, family symbols, and dimensional matching to a specific doorway are all possible.

Q: How does the commission process work?

A: Email sales@davidroytman.com with the piece, materials, symbol or text, occasion, date, and budget. The atelier returns a sketch in 7 days. After approval, production runs 4 to 6 weeks. The piece arrives numbered and signed.

Q: How much does a custom commission cost?

A: Engraving on existing pieces averages $62 over catalog. Fully bespoke designs $1,200 to $3,000+. Multi-piece corporate runs are quoted per run. Special materials (gold, rare stones) priced separately.

Q: Can corporate gift series be custom?

A: Yes. The atelier accepts multi-piece runs of 10 to 50 identical pieces: cufflinks for partners, mezuzah cases for office openings, kiddush cups for multi-family events. Lead time 6 to 8 weeks. Per-run quote.

Q: How do I start a custom Judaica commission?

A: Visit Custom Made Judaica for the full commission brief, or email sales@davidroytman.com directly. The atelier replies with sketch and quote within 7 days.
